Ducted gas heating vs reverse cycle heating

With energy prices rising, ducted gas heating has the edge on reverse cycle when it comes to both efficiency and performance, and even more so now with the world's first 7 star equivalent* ducted gas heating range from Braemar

  • Cost effective - save up to $612 per year when compared to reverse cycle^
  • Better performance - reverse cycle works less efficiently when outside temperature drops. Ducted gas efficiently remains steady.
  • Instant warmth - ducted gas reaches desired temperature much faster the reverse cycle.
  • Comfortable air - Ducted gas won't dry your skin and eyes. It's a different kind of cosy warmth.

Gas Works are the Gas Log Fire experts. No one knows gas like Gas Works and they stock all the top brands like Eseca, Cannon, Rinnai, Regency, Heatmaster,  Pecan Nectre and more.

With power prices rising and gas prices falling there has never been a better time to convert to gas. Plus right now there are great natural gas rebates to be had. Rebates on space heating, ducted heating, hot water and connection.

Mr Philip Andrews Chairperson of the Gas Works groups said “These are very generous rebates. This year the rebates for installing natural gas space heating is double over last year. In fact if you are not connected to natural gas you can apply for over $2,000 in rebates. As part of the rebated scheme this year there is a new incentive to connect to natural gas. Natural gas is not subject to outages like power has been of late and you seldom hear of interruption of service.” Mr Andrews went on to say “With 5 stores, Gas Works have tremendous buying power with manufactures and only stock top quality brands. Take the South Australian made Pecan Nectre for instance, this unit comes with a free standard flue kit and after the natural gas rebates you can have a beautiful romantic gas log fire in your home for a little more than a $1,000 (plus installation) and the Australian Gas Network offer free connection as an added bonus (T&C’s apply). So if you are looking for economical option to heat your home that is fair more environmentally friendly than coal fired produced electricity then gas is a great option whether it be Gas Log Fire, an easy to install, portable space heater or the convenience of  whole of home ducted solution, then gas could be for you”.

The modern gas log fires look so realistic and many can heat more than one room. They are available as freestanding units or can be built in. Gas Works are on the cutting edge of home installation and can design and build mock chimney breasts to house the fires and the necessary flue and duct work.

Leading brands like Eseca and Rinnai offer models that are 5 star plus in efficiency so they not only look stylish but helps to save on running costs as well. In addition some of the models have option like river pebbles rather than the traditional logs. Sleek refined and elegant are words that Mr Andrews used to describe some of the fires as we walked around the store and viewed extensive range that Gas Works offer.

Save your family from what the weather forecasters are predicting is going to be a long hot summer. Gas Works are Climate Masters of Seeley International an exclusive group of retailers who are expects in suppling and installing evaporative cooling. Gas Works are experts in  air conditioning and if you are not sure whether to invest in evaporative or reverse cycle the check the Better Living Video on Evaporative or Reverse Cycle Which is best?

Evaporative cooling is a great way to cool any space. The technology behind it is very simple but delivers great results. Here we will demonstrate who it works in 3 simple steps.

Image from Breezair

1. Warm outside air is drawn into the evaporative cooler through wet filter pads by the ventilation fan.

2. The warm air passing through the wet filter pads makes the water evaporate. The heat needed to cause the evaporation is expelled, creating cooler air.

3. The ventilation fan then directs the cool air through to the areas being cooled.

This system works similarly to how the human body regulates temperature. If the human body is too hot it will perspire to create moisture on the skin. As air passes along the perspiration it evaporates, cools the skin and helps to lower the overall body temperature.

Warm air drawn into wet filter pads evaporates the water. If all the water evaporates then there is no way to cool the air. That’s why all evaporative coolers have pumps that continually draw water to wet the filter pads from the top down.

Unfortunately evaporative coolers can’t be used everywhere. Most of Australia is perfect for evaporative cooling except for the top end of Australia where there are high temperatures along with high to extreme levels of humidity at the same time. Click here for a map view of the best areas for evaporative coolers.

Below is a video from Breezair that gives a more graphical view of how their evaporative systems work.

Evaporative or Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning ... which is best?

Posted on Wednesday, October 19, 2016

Are you trying to make the decision between evaporative cooling and reverse cycle air conditioning and not sure which will be best for you?

It’s a big financial decision so you’ll want to get it right, so let’s take a look at both systems which may help you to decide.

Starting with the very basic differences evaporative systems cool only where as reverse cycle will both heat and cool. However you can combine gas ducted heating with evaporative cooling to warm you home which will give you the best of both worlds.

Evaporative cooling system works by drawing the warm air through water soaked pads thus cooling the air. This method works particularly well in drier climates like Western Australian and South Australia.

As they only require power to run the pump and a fan their running costs can be the equivalent as running a light globe. They are by far a less complex system to build and therefore cheaper to buy. The average purchase price and installation cost is roughly half that of a reverse cycle unit. In addition they are easy to maintain and repair and far more environmentally friendlier.

Reverse cycle air conditioning cools or heats the air inside the home and then recycles the air inside the house through a filter called the return air vent. For efficiency it’s best to keep all your external windows and door closed, that way you are not having to cool down or heat up air from outside.
With evaporative cooling you need to leave a window or screen door open to expel the warm air from the home and prevent a build up of moisture.

Certainly there are those who feel the constantly changing air is a good thing while others who suffer from hay fever and allergies might feel that recycling filtered air is better.

Reverse Cycle air conditioning work well in both dry and humid conditions. While they cost more purchase and install they do offer the convenience of both heating and cooling from one unit. It also means just one lot ductwork and grills. Another advantage of reverse cycle is that you can zone parts of the home so that you only cool or heat the parts you are using at the time.

The most important thing to remember is whichever you decide on, invest in a quality brand that is backed with a reputable manufactures guarantee. If you would like to know more check out our website or drop into a store and talk to one of the home climate solutions experts.

Adam Roe Director of Findon Store presenting the Smart TV to Yvonne.

Mr Andrews said “Right now there is no better time to convert to Gas Hot Waters Systems. Electricity prices are rising by 7.2% and Gas prices falling by 10.4% add to this there up to $1,500 rebates available and you can connect to gas for free” (see maketheconnection.com.au for details).

Service and Maintenance – Home safety

Posted on Monday, August 22, 2016

The gas works team are often asked how safe are gas appliances and the short answer is very, however a word to the wise. You should always ensure that the appliance you are purchasing has been approved for use in Australia.

If you are buying a gas appliance online it’s important to check that the appliance has been approved for use in Australia.

A good place to start is the Australian Gas Association’s web site aga dot asn dot au and if you buy online then your appliance must by law be installed by a licensed gas fitter.

There are certain gas appliances that should never be used indoors. BBQ’s and Outdoor heaters are definite no no’s. The main reason for this is that gas outputs carbon monoxide so therefore it is recommended that all heaters be flued to the outside. There is a Better Living video on this very subject.

It is recommended that all gas appliances be regularly inspected by a professional every two years. From time to time the gas flow may need to be adjusted to ensure that it is burning at an optimal mixture. As a guide a healthy gas flame should burn blue with the exception of some decorative gas log fires.

Flues may become clogged blocked or corroded so it is important that these are checked for the health and safety of your family.

Gas Works are also experts when it comes to servicing reverse cycle and evaporative air conditioning systems.

Now Gas Works have qualified gas fitters, plumbers and electricians on staff and can advise you, so check out the gas works website for more information or give them a call, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Gas prices drop

Posted on Wednesday, August 03, 2016

With electricity prices on the rise there is no better time to install gas in your home. There are still generous rebates available from the Australian Gas Networks.

There are up to $1,500  in rebates you can apply for. In most cases you can get gas connected to your home for free.

If you are looking to save money on your home energy cost then Gas Continuous Flow Hot Water systems are an excellent option as you only pay to heat the hot water you need instead of heating water and storing it in a tank.

When it comes to home heating, gas offers many options like space heaters and wall furnaces and then there are those beautiful romantic gas log fires some of which can be ducted into other rooms. Some space heaters start as low as under $600 so you can keep warm and not break the bank.

If you are looking for a whole of home solution, ducted gas is great alternative to reverse cycle and works exceptionally well with evaporative cooling. The added bonus with ducted gas is right now there is still a $750 rebate on offer for a limited time.

For the master chef in your home you can make your kitchen rule with gas cooking appliances and you know that gas is the choice of all the best chefs for control when cooking. Gas can also help in the laundry with gas heated tumble dryers.

Gas Works are Gas experts and have an extensive range of gas appliances in store. They carry all the leading brands and have a team of qualified installers for your peace of mind. Gas Works is the trusted name in gas for almost 20 years. They are the only remaining group of gas specialist stores left in SA and no one knows gas better. With 6 stores around Adelaide there is bound to be one near you or ask for an in home consultation to be sure that your heating requirements meet your needs.
