Cleaner water from every tap in the house — filtered before it reaches your kitchen, showers, laundry and appliances.
Adelaide tap water is safe to drink, but it’s not always pleasant. SA Water treats the mains supply with chlorine to keep it safe on the long trip from reservoir to your tap, and depending on where you live in the metro area, you’ll notice it in the taste, the smell of the shower and the film it leaves on glassware. A whole home water filter fixes all of that at one point — where the water enters the house — so every outlet gives you filtered water without a filter jug in sight.
Gas Works has been sorting out home comfort for South Australian families for over 25 years. We’ve had more and more customers ask about water filtration while replacing their hot water systems, and after a good look at what’s on the market, we’ve partnered with Puretec — Australian-designed, backed by a 10-year warranty and made to handle Aussie mains water. Two systems, one great outcome: better water in every room.
A whole house filter (also called a POE, or point-of-entry system) is installed on the mains water line just after it enters your property. All the water inside the house — hot and cold, every tap, shower, appliance and outdoor bib — passes through it first. That’s different from an under-sink filter, which only cleans the water at one kitchen tap. If you want filtered water in the shower, laundry, ensuite and kitchen, you need a whole house system.
Rule of thumb — and our team will confirm on-site:
Small to medium homes (1–2 bathrooms) with concerns about chlorine, taste and scale build-up: FilterWall F4 Mineral Grey.
Larger homes or homes where higher flow rate matters most (multiple bathrooms running at once): WH2-55AMC.
Homes with visible sediment or discolouration from the mains: either system handles it — the WH2-55AMC has larger cartridge capacity, meaning longer time between changes.
Homes with hard water and scale build-up on kettles, glassware and hot water systems: FilterWall F4 with ScaleProtect.
We stock two Puretec systems, chosen to cover the two most common situations we see in Adelaide homes:
The workhorse. A 2-stage sediment + carbon block filter with an architectural aluminium cover, 55 litres per minute flow rate and a 10-year warranty. Reduces sediment, chlorine, chemicals and PFAS. Suits most Adelaide family homes and can be neatly mounted on the exterior wall next to your hot water unit.
From $1,739 RRP. Installation quoted separately.
The design-led option. A freestanding, Good Design Award-winning 3-stage system that adds ScaleProtect™ scale reduction on top of sediment and carbon filtration. Ideal for small to medium homes where scale build-up is an issue, and for anyone who wants the filter system to actually look good against the side of the house. 30 Lpm flow rate, 10-year warranty.
From $4,155 RRP. Installation quoted separately.
Chlorine can dry out skin and aggravate conditions like eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis. Filtered shower water reduces exposure and many customers report noticeably softer skin within weeks.
Better taste, no chlorine smell, no need for bottled water or filter jugs — you drink more, and the kids drink more
Chlorine strips natural oils and can leave hair dry, brittle and colour-treated hair fading faster. Filtered water is gentler, and hairdressers routinely recommend filtering for coloured hair.
Better taste, no chlorine smell, no need for bottled water or filter jugs — you drink more, and the kids drink more.
Tea, coffee, stock and rice all taste different when the chlorine’s out of the water. Your veggies get rinsed in filtered water too.
Filtered water — especially with ScaleProtect — reduces scale build-up in your hot water system, dishwasher, washing machine, kettle and coffee machine. Everything lasts longer
Yes. SA Water meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and Adelaide’s mains supply is safe to drink straight from the tap. A whole house filter isn’t about making unsafe water safe — it’s about removing the chlorine used to treat the water, plus fine sediment, chemicals like PFAS and taste/odour compounds, so the water is more pleasant to drink and gentler on your skin, hair and appliances.
If all you want is better-tasting drinking water at the kitchen tap, an under-sink filter can do the job. If you want filtered water in the shower, laundry, ensigns, bathroom taps and outdoor tap — plus protection for your hot water system and appliances — you need a whole house (point-of-entry) system. It’s one install that covers the entire home.
Puretec systems supplied by Gas Works start from $1,739 RRP for the WH2-55AMC and $4,155 RRP for the FilterWall F4 Mineral Grey. Installation is quoted separately — in most cases we can put an estimate together from your house plans and a few photos of where the mains line enters the property, so you don’t have to wait around for a site visit. Get in touch and we’ll sort it out.
Puretec recommends replacing sediment and carbon cartridges every 12 months for most Australian homes. Cartridge life depends on water usage, incoming water quality and the number of people in the house. We’ll show you how to change them yourself, or you can book us for a service.
Many customers with eczema, dermatitis and sensitive skin tell us they notice a real difference once chlorine is removed from their shower water. Chlorine can dry and irritate skin, so filtering it out lowers exposure across every shower and bath in the house. It’s not a medical treatment, but it’s a common recommendation from dermatologists and one of the top reasons Adelaide families ask us about home filtration.
Puretec’s systems are engineered to maintain strong flow. The WH2-55AMC handles up to 55 litres per minute and the FilterWall F4 up to 30 litres per minute, which is more than enough for typical family use. A small pressure drop is normal but you shouldn’t notice it in the shower.
No. Both Puretec systems we supply are fully mechanical — no power, no moving parts, no maintenance beyond changing cartridges.
